Scope

CONTENTdm is a digital collection management tool for creating, organizing, and accessing digital assets. General information about CONTENTdm is available at www.contentdm.com.

CONTENTdm consists of the following components:

  1. The CONTENTdm Server includes the search tools, the collection and server administration tools, and the end-user Web interface. The Server is the main element of the product and allows users to define, manage, and search collections. The end-user Web interface is the element used to access collections.
  2. The Acquisition Station is a Windows desktop application that allows users to import items and metadata and upload them to the CONTENTdm Server.
  3. The PowerPoint Plug-in is a Windows desktop application that allows users to download items from the CONTENTdm Server into a PowerPoint presentation.

This document applies only to the end-user Web interface of CONTENTdm, referred to as PRODUCT throughout this document, and does not cover the other portions of the software. Additionally, this document does not make claims about the accessibility of specific collection items or customizations that may be created by an institution using CONTENTdm.

CONTENTdm collections are created by the organizations using the product, not by the software itself, and contain a wide range of file types (e.g. JPEG, GIF, TIFF, audio and video files, Adobe Acrobat files, and other proprietary file formats). Therefore, individual collections and collection items may need to be evaluated for their compliance to Section 508 standards. Periodic review may be necessary if the content of a collection is augmented.

Some organizations may choose to customize the colors used in the Web templates. Customized pages may need to be evaluated separately for their compliance to Section 508 standards.
