Google still king of search and clear favorite across all search categories, new Keynote study reports

Dr. Bonny Brown, Director of Research and Public Services for Keynote, said, “Despite active competitive maneuverings, Google’s challengers have yet to break the leader’s grip on consumers’ affections, although each of the search engines has their own loyal following. The clear appeal of Google’s home page, as well as its presentation of sponsored ads and the overall usefulness of its ads continue to be important factors in Google’s continuing success.” Other findings:

  • Yahoo!, a strong second, most competitive with Google in local and image search

  • Ask Jeeves jumps in brand perceptions when consumers try its site

  • MSN improving in general search quality and presentation of sponsored results

  • AOL’s strength lies with its subscriber base

Veenendaal City Archives uses CONTENTdm to put its unique photo collection online

OCLC PICA’s first European CONTENTdm customer translates the interface into Dutch and integrates the collection into its Web site

History is once again quite popular. More and more people want to know about their ancestors, their city and what their street used to look like. Anticipating this interest, the archives of the Dutch city of Veenendaal decided to put online part of its rich photo collection, which includes a large number of pictures and postcards.

“We chose CONTENTdm because it was the most user-friendly solution for our needs,” said Dave Eickhoff, Archivist at the Veenendaal City Archives. “We work with volunteers who are not always very experienced in IT, but they could use this system very well. On top of that, we liked the fact that CONTENTdm is a complete package and does not require any modules and user licenses to be bought separately.”
