FictionFinder prototype demonstrates power of FRBR
to simplify record retrieval

Available from the OCLC ResearchWorks Web page, FictionFinder shows how the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) model can facilitate searching and browsing bibliographic records for fiction.

The prototype system of 2.5 million WorldCat records allows you to locate fiction titles for your reading pleasure and saves you time by grouping near-duplicate records together in a “work-level” display using a FRBR-based interface. Results lists are shorter and easier to navigate.

Elements that are useful in finding and selecting a work of fiction, such as summaries, genre terms and subject headings, are extracted from individual bibliographic records, filtered, indexed and displayed at the work level.

Records may be searched on title, author, fictitious characters, imaginary places, settings, fiction categories, summaries, subjects, literary forms, special forms and ISBN. They may also be browsed on most of these categories.
