Herbert Van de Sompel wins Frederick G. Kilgour Award for Research in Library and Information Technology

Dr. Van de Sompel is being recognized for his significant work in linking technologies and metadata harvesting that helped create the SFX architecture and a protocol for harvesting metadata. OCLC and the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), a division of the American Library Association, sponsor the annual award.

WorldCat update

Every 15 seconds an OCLC member library adds a new record to WorldCat, which contained 49,726,257 unique bibliographic records, representing 883,996,797 holding locations as of April 26, 2003. Every 5 seconds an OCLC member library fills an interlibrary loan request using WorldCat, which has supported 126,022,371 interlibrary loan requests as of April 26, 2003. Every 2 seconds a library user searches WorldCat using the OCLC FirstSearch service.
