Montana State University–Bozeman enters 136 millionth request into OCLC ILL service

Created on May 20, the request was for the book, Multilevel Analysis: An Introduction to Basic and Advanced Multilevel Modeling and was filled by the University of Houston–Victoria. More than 7,000 libraries use the OCLC Interlibrary Loan service, which arranged 9.3 million loans in fiscal year 2002-2003. The 135 millionth request was produced April 9, 2004.

As the OCLC cooperative celebrates 25 years of resource sharing in 2004, OCLC is planning changes to interlibrary loan that will help your library improve efficiency and workflow. “New directions in sharing” is your source for the latest news as OCLC ILL functionality migrates to the FirstSearch reference service.

Why students prefer the Web to the library

A May 13 post to LISNews, a collaborative weblog devoted to current events and news in the world of library and information science, links to an article in the Minneapolis–St. Paul Star Tribune, which lists these reasons students don’t like using libraries:

  • Everything worth knowing is on the Internet.

  • The “Target mentality”: It’s like running into Target and getting it and going.

  • Libraries are boring.

  • Fear: “There's a lot of library anxiety out there. It takes getting used to.”

IUPUI shares campus history in images with CONTENTdm

The IUPUI Image Collection, an online collection of over 4,200 digital images housed on the Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) University Library Web site, shares historic images with students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community.

This collection of digital images visually represents IUPUI’s history and development as a teaching facility, an academic institution, a continually transforming campus and a group of ever-growing students, faculty and staff.

The processing of images began in 2001, and the collection went live with 500 images in November 2002. IUPUI continually adds university-produced images that may be of use to the university environment.
