Autonomy, NetLibrary to provide libraries with an improved learning environment

NetLibrary, a division of OCLC, is partnering with Autonomy Corporation to provide academic, public, corporate and special libraries with improved search and retrieval functionality. A global leader in infrastructure software, Autonomy’s technology will allow NetLibrary to index eBooks, eJournals and other eContent regardless of format or location. Multiple file types in different repositories, including internal PDF and HTML documents and external Web sites and databases, can be aggregated and made available through a single search interface.

Does your library produce an e-mail newsletter?

Make sure it avoids the recycle bin by following these suggestions.

As more and more organizations realize the enormous potential of e-mail, consumer in-boxes are being inundated with messages. The challenge is clear: rise above the clutter and spam to get your messages read. Here’s how, according to Socketware, Inc., the maker of Accucast e-mail marketing products and services.

Make it short but sweet. Write concisely and state your purpose early in the e-mail. Body copy should be brief, compelling and immediately engaging.

Get personal. Consider using personalization within your e-mail. By using a first name or inserting customized content, your reader will feel like you understand his or her needs.

Take advantage of the subject line. The subject line is very important because it’s the first thing a recipient sees when deciding whether to read your message. If you want to grab the reader’s attention, this is the place to do it.
