OCLC PICA announces that netLibrary, a division of OCLC, will provide eBooks to the National Health Service (NHS) Purchasing and Supply Agency as part of its effort to purchase electronic information resources for NHS libraries. Laura Gillan, Buyer, NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency, says, “We give procurement support to NHS libraries by providing access to new and innovative information solutions. The electronic books available through netLibrary will enable access to a broad range of additional resources.”

New protocols emerging to support and connect digital libraries

More journals added to Electronic Collections Online

The OCLC FirstSearch Electronic Collections Online database continues to grow. Fifty-one new journals from 16 publishers were recently added, bringing the total number of titles available to 4,688.

WorldCat update

Every 12 seconds an OCLC member library adds a new record to WorldCat, which contains more than 52 million records representing 895,501,092 holding locations as of September 6, 2003. Every 4 seconds an OCLC member library fills an interlibrary loan request using WorldCat, which has supported 128,903,262 interlibrary loan requests as of September 6, 2003. A library user searches WorldCat using the OCLC FirstSearch service every second.
