New sets, new languages

OCLC Language Sets are now available in several new subject-related sets of materials

Topics include immigration, language learning, ESL, family health and homework help—all in non-English languages for the native speaker. The sets contain books either for children, young adults and adults with no duplication from set to set. Among the new sets:

Road to U.S. Citizenship Set
Designed to support a library’s efforts to provide information to immigrant populations and support outreach activities, such as ESL and citizenship classes. Set could include materials on obtaining green cards, visas, paying taxes, learning to drive, home ownership, and U.S. history. Languages: Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. 

Family Language Learning/Cultural Heritage Set
Designed to appeal to immigrants who want to maintain or introduce native language and cultural heritage to their children, family, and friends. Promoting cross-cultural learning and outreach, the set would include materials on traditional foods, holidays, dances, politics and history. 
Available for the following countries: Mexico, Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Egypt, India, Russia and the Philippines. 

Family Health Set
Designed to provide immigrants with information on all aspects of health, nutrition, child development, high blood pressure and other common diseases. This subject matter has always been in high demand. Languages: Arabic, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Hindi. 

Spanish Homework Help Set
Designed to help the newly immigrated Spanish-speaker to complete homework assignments. Includes basic encyclopedias and materials on science, math, and English grammar. Supports High School and Middle School grade levels.

In addition, two South Asian Sets featuring adult fiction and nonfiction books also are available. South Asian sets include titles in Bengali, Gujarati, Malayalam, Marathi, Panjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu; South Asian sets in English include materials in English by Indian authors.
