Learn about middleware and its impact on Internet2
In this OCLC Distinguished Seminar Series presentation, Dr. Ken Klingenstein, Director, Internet2 Middleware Initiative, defines and discusses the emergence of middleware technologies in higher education and the tools that allow consistent campus implementations to support inter-institutional collaborations. He references successes and identifies issues, such as internationalization, privacy and security, that the middleware initiative is addressing.

Wellesley College Library enters 129 millionth request into the OCLC
ILL service
Created on September 10, the request was for an article in an 1897 copy of The Dial for a faculty member. More than 7,000 libraries use the OCLC Interlibrary Loan service, which began operation in 1979. The service arranged 9.3 million loans in fiscal year 2002-2003.

WorldCat update
Every 12 seconds an OCLC member library adds a new record to WorldCat, which contains more than 53 million records representing 897,446,506 holding locations as of September 27, 2003. Every 4 seconds an OCLC member library fills an interlibrary loan request using WorldCat, which has supported 129,535,531 interlibrary loan requests as of September 27, 2003. A library user searches WorldCat using the OCLC FirstSearch service every second.
