Nebraska, Iowa and Ontario public libraries recognized by WebJunction awards program

Meadow Grove Library (Nebraska, USA), Storm Lake Public Library (Iowa, USA) and Windsor Public Library (Ontario, Canada) have earned Technology Planning awards from WebJunction, an online community where library staff meet to share ideas, solve problems, take online courses—and have fun.

The awards recognize creative and effective technology planning and the impact it has on programming, budgeting, clarifying priorities and improving services.

As a result of its technology planning, Meadow Grove Library saw a 50 percent increase in the number of people using its services and will build a new library in 2005. The Storm Lake Public Library initiated a Technology Rotation plan that puts all computer equipment on a three-year replacement schedule. And Windsor Public Library implemented a formal annual review of technology directions and spending.

OCLC helps Cornell University publish Witchcraft Collection

High quality preservation microfilming by OCLC helped Cornell University Library digitally publish a special Witchcraft Collection that contains over 3,000 titles documenting the history of the Inquisition and the persecution of witchcraft.

The OCLC Preservation Service Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, preserved a collection of monographs printed from pre-1600 to 1850 in German, French, English and other western European languages. About 30 percent of the volumes were brittle, stained or damaged.
